CERAMIC COATING FAQs

DO CERAMIC COATINGS PREVENT SCRATCHES & ROCK CHIPS?

Unfortunately no, ceramic coatings do not prevent scratches and rock chips. That is a feature of paint protection film/PPF. Ceramic coatings can reduce light swirl marks or marring during the wash process, but not prevent them.

DO I STILL NEED TO WAX AFTER CERAMIC COATING?

No, you do not need to use wax after ceramic coating. This is because once the coating has bonded to the paint, the wax will no longer stick. Ceramic coating will also last for years while wax only lasts for a couple months.

DOES A CERAMIC COATING FILL IN SCRATCHES?

No, ceramic coatings do not fill in scratches. This is a myth that has been spread around a lot, and it isn’t true. Unlike a paste wax, ceramic coatings do not contain any fillers, meaning all the scratches and swirl marks will still be there after the coating is applied. For this reason, we strongly recommend a paint correction be performed prior to the ceramic coating install to achieve maximum shine & gloss.

DOES A CERAMIC COATING PREVENT WATER SPOTS?

To some degree, ceramic coatings can reduce water spots, however they do not prevent them from happening. Since coatings contain great hydrophobic properties, this naturally allows less water to stick to them, however if the water contains lots of minerals (hard water), spots will still form on the paint. The only way to truly prevent water spots is to remove the main cause of the hard water (parking next to a sprinkler, washing the car with unfiltered water, etc). Our 3 year coating contains graphene, which is the slickest coating we offer and helps reduce water spots the most.

CAN WE STILL GO TO THE AUTOMATIC CAR WASH AFTER GETTING A CERAMIC COATING?

We highly suggest completely staying away from the automatic car wash!! We have seen some serious damage they can cause not just to your paint, but to other areas of your car as well (cracked windshields, punctured tires, paint chips, etc)! Even the touchless car washes can use very harsh chemicals that can prematurely degrade the ceramic coating we install on your vehicle. Most car washes have brushes, and we can’t stress enough how bad they are for your paint, and how much effort (and more money on your part, which we don’t want you to have to spend) it takes to perform paint correction on your vehicle.

HOW MUCH DOES CERAMIC COATING TYPICALLY COST?

We believe in fair pricing, and due to our small shop setting we are proud to offer our ceramic coatings for a lot less than other big shops. We have packages starting at $699 (our most popular option) and range up from there.

HOW OFTEN DO I WASH MY VEHICLE AFTER GETTING A CERAMIC COATING?

We recommend washing your vehicle once every two weeks, or if you can’t stand to see it get dirty at all, once a week is plenty. Once you wash the vehicle the first time after getting a ceramic coating, you’ll be amazed at how much easier it becomes to wash!

HOW LONG DOES CERAMIC COATING USUALLY TAKE?

Since we are owner-operated, we are proud to have quick turnaround times for ceramic coating installs! With an early morning drop off (no polishing/paint correction), we can usually have the vehicle done and ready to hit the road in the late afternoon the same day (weather permitting of course). If paint correction is requested, we usually have a 1 day turnaround time (ex Monday morning drop off, Tuesday morning/afternoon pick up). We only do one vehicle at a time, this way all of our attention is on your car until it leaves our shop.

WHY IS CERAMIC COATING SO EXPENSIVE?

The cost that comes with getting a ceramic coating installed can be attributed to a number of different factors. Most notably, the cost of materials and level of skill it takes to apply properly are the biggest ones. We try to offer our clients the most generous pricing we can (we don’t have high overhead cost like big shops do), so we are able to keep our prices in an affordable range.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT CERAMIC COATING COMPANIES?

The answer may surprise you on this one! We don’t believe in offering a ceramic coating solely based off which brand it is. The best ceramic coating is the one that works, fits your budget, isn’t very costly to purchase or take weeks to get in, and lasts as long as you expect it to (with proper care of course). Many ceramic coatings are actually made in the same place, re-bottled and re-sold. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing (assuming its a great product to begin with), just keep in mind that many coating companies are actually marketing companies that sell ceramic coatings. Just because one brand is marketed and pushed more than another, doesn’t make it a better coating.

IS A CERAMIC COATING WORTH IT?

Yes, getting a ceramic coating installed is absolutely worth the investment! Unlike waxing, coatings can last for several years with proper care, provide excellent protection from UV rays, chemical stains, bug guts, bird poop, and other things that can damage your vehicle’s paint over time. Ceramic coatings are very hydrophobic, allowing water and dirt to bead up and slide off the paint. This means a lot less time spend washing and maintaining, and lots of money saved in the long run from frequent waxing and polishing.

CAN CERAMIC COATING BE APPLIED TO ANY TYPE OF VEHICLE?

Yes, a ceramic coating can be installed on any type of vehicle regardless of make or model. Whether you have a luxury car or a daily commuter, ceramic coatings offer the same benefits and protection.

WHAT BRAND OF CERAMIC COATING IS BEST?

There is no single best ceramic coating brand out there, and anyone who promises they use or know of the best coating out there, is simply trying to sell you their product. There are thousands of options out there, and nobody can try them all! We try every product we use on our vehicle first before we install or use them on a client’s vehicle, this goes for all of our services! This way, you know you’re getting a quality install with a quality product. We use the exact same coatings and detailing products on our own vehicles as you are. If we suggest or recommend a coating, its because we are also using it and found excellent results with it, no matter what the brand says on the bottle!

PAINT CORRECTION FAQs

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE PAINT CORRECTION DONE?

Ideally, paint correction is something that we only want to do once on your vehicle. This is largely due to the fact that paint is getting thinner, especially on newer vehicles. This is why we usually conduct paint correction along with a ceramic coating to reduce the build up of dirt, and to make your vehicle super easy to clean – less chance of scratching!

HOW LONG DOES PAINT CORRECTION TAKE?

The length of time required for paint correction depends on the severity of the imperfections, the size of the vehicle, and the extend of correction desired. It can range from a few hours to a couple days. We never like to ask for more time, however we remain in constant communication with our clients and you will be updated along the way.

IS PAINT CORRECTION WORTH THE INVESTMMENT?

If you value the appearance and longevity of your car, paint correction is definitely a worthwhile investment! It can drastically increase the resale value if you decide to sell or trade in, and it improves the look of your car even beyond showroom condition!

CAN YOU REMOVE 100% OF SCRATCHES?

We must balance the perfection level with the amount of clear coat you have, and by chasing every scratch (especially deep ones) we are actually damaging your paint further, than if we had just done a light polish. This is because thinner clear coat scratches easier, and if we polish too much, we are actually setting you up for failure because you won’t have much clear coat left. We always try to give you the best result while preserving as much clear coat as we can!

DO YOU FIX ROCK CHIPS?

Unfortunately, we do not fix rock chips. One of the main reasons is because the results can be hit or miss. Sometimes you can simply touch them up with a small brush or a paint pen and it comes out ok, or sometimes you can go as far as wet-sanding and it makes the rock chips look worse. We always recommend going to a body shop for this type of work.

CAN YOU FIX OXIDATION/CLEAR COAT FAILURE?

Over time, the clear coat on a vehicle (upper most layer of your paint) will begin to degrade due to numerous environmental factors (most notably UV exposure), and the harsh sun in the Las Vegas area is no joke when it comes to this. You have probably seen other vehicles around that have faded paint, this is exactly what oxidation is. If caught early enough, we can usually correct this defect, but once the clear coat starts to peel or flake off its too late, this is defined as clear coat failure – repainting is the only logical solution.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PAINT ENHANCEMENT & PAINT CORRECTION?

Essentially, they mean the same thing, however these terms get mixed up quite a bit, so this is the way we define them: Paint enhancement – a quicker/lighter form of polishing that is designed to go after lighter defects (most popular with newer cars). Paint correction – a more comprehensive, in depth service that usually requires a lot of work, and is designed to go after much deeper & severe defects. Each car is different, so it’s best to schedule a time to bring your vehicle by so we can take a look and see exactly what your car needs.

WHAT FACTORY DEFECTS HAVE YOU SEEN ON BRAND NEW VEHICLES?

We have seen numerous defects from the factory or dealer (hard to pinpoint where the defect occurs), however just because the vehicle is new, does not mean it is perfect! We see things like swirl marks, paint overspray (also known as “orange peel“), dings, even misaligned panels right off the showroom floor! It’s hard to say where these occur, but a good majority probably happen at the dealer when the vehicle is quickly “prepped” before the sale. If you’re getting ready to buy a brand new vehicle, please ask them to not detail it. Most dealerships have automatic car washes with brushes, and they run the vehicle through before you complete the paperwork. We have seen some nightmare dealer detail jobs that we’re obviously rushed, and ended up costing our clients lots of money to fix even before they got to drive the vehicle home!

AFTERCARE FAQs

CAN I STILL TAKE MY CAR THROUGH THE AUTOMATIC CAR WASH?

We strongly advise against this! The automatic car wash wreaks havoc on your paint, and can even cause physical damage to the car as well! We have seen some nightmare scenarios far too many times!

DO I STILL NEED TO WASH MY CAR AFTER GETTING A CERAMIC COATING?

As much as we wish you didn’t have to wash your car after getting a ceramic coating installed, you do still need to wash it regularly. Doing this helps maintain the coating, and will make sure you get the maximum duration that the coating was designed for. There is a big misconception that ceramic coating completely repels dirt, and that is simply not true. Your car will still get dirty, but having the ceramic coating installed on your vehicle will make cleanup so much easier!

DO YOU STILL NEED TO USE WAX?

Not at all, ceramic coating makes wax completely obsolete, as the benefits of coatings outweigh the benefits of wax.

DOES MY VEHICLE NEED TO BE PARKED IN THE GARAGE AFTER GETTING A CERAMIC COATING?

Not at all, ceramic coatings are designed to protect the paint on your vehicle from many environmental contaminants. Whatever does land on the car is easily cleaned up when it comes time to wash the car. We understand not everyone can park their car in the garage all the time, and that is completely ok!

WHAT PRODUCTS SHOULD I USE TO TAKE CARE OF MY CERAMIC COATED VEHICLE?

There are so many options out there when it comes to car care products, it can feel overwhelming at times! Luckily, we have tried a lot of them, and have narrowed down our list substantially. After your install is complete, we will provide you with a list of products we use on our own vehicles that you can use on your car with total confidence. And no, we aren’t paid at all to mention any products, we just truly believe in them!

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO WASH MY CAR AFTER GETTING A CERAMIC COATING?

Immediately after your install is complete, please refrain from washing the vehicle for a period of 1 week. After the first wash, we suggest washing the vehicle on a weekly or biweekly basis.

BUSINESS & SCHEDULING FAQs

ARE YOU A REGISTERED BUSINESS?

You bet we are! We are a registered business with the City of Las Vegas as well as with the State of Nevada. Both license documents are on display in our shop.

DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?

Yes we do! We use State Farm, and have access to a local agent if anything ever happens. We also have insurance that allows us to drive your car, which surprisingly a lot of businesses don’t have. We understand this question and get it all the time, and we realize how easy it is to start a business in the US but not go about it the right way, especially in the detailing & auto care industry. We have never had to file a claim, but not to be worried – but if we had to, we’re covered (and we can adjust our coverage as needed in certain situations.)

DO YOU OFFER A WARRANTY ON CERAMIC COATINGS?

Premiere Auto Detail will be your point of contact for any warranty issues. We don’t necessarily provide a written warranty policy, however we simply try to make it as easy as possible for our clients in the event that they ever need a warranty, they can just swing by the shop and we can take care of the issue for them. This way makes it simpler, easier, and more transparent for everyone. If you ever have an issue with your ceramic coating, contact us and we will take care of you.

DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT WHEN BOOKING?

For jobs that fall in the category of auto detailing, we don’t typically require a deposit unless it is a large job that requires a lot of materials or is a high labor job. We do require a 15% deposit for our ceramic coating and paint correction jobs. In the event of a cancellation, the money will not be refunded, however if you need to reschedule, we can do that one time at no additional fee.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO WE NEED TO CALL OR TEXT TO BOOK?

We can usually schedule pretty far out and fit most jobs in a 0-4 week timeframe. We can schedule you out farther in advance if need be as well, but the sooner you know you’ll need a ceramic coating or paint correction (for example placing an order in for a new vehicle or knowing the delivery date your vehicle will arrive at the dealer), the better the time to schedule with us so we can get you on the calendar.

At Premiere Auto Detail located in Las Vegas, we believe in attention to detail and a tailored, well-communicated, and friendly working relationship with each one of our clients. To us, you are not just a business transaction. We strive to treat our clients like family.
